Recent Honors, Awards and Special Recognitions:

Hamilton High - (2012-2013) CUSD mathematics teachers Ed Anderson (Hamilton) and Nicole Kooiman (Santan Junior High), were the conference co-chairs for Arizona Association of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference at ASU on September 22.

Hamilton High - (2012-2013) The Hamilton Chapter of Best Buddies was awarded the Outstanding Chapter Award amongst the Best Buddies Chapters throughout the United States at a conference in Bloomington, Indiana over the summer.

Hamilton High - (2012-2013) Hamilton High Principal Dr. Fred DePrez traveled to Arlington, Virginia where he was honored as Arizona's representative in the 2012 National Association of Secondary Principals/MetLife Principal of the Year.

Hamilton High - (2012-2013) Hamilton High School students Koby Song-Nichols, Alice Fang , Julia Liu, Sammi Tam, Bennett Van Camp, Edward Lai, Allie Sedgwick and Kaitlin Phan all won awards at the ASU Confucius Institute photo contest 2012.

Hamilton High - (2012-2013) The high school girls golf teams competed in a CUSD tournament at Ocotillo Golf recently. Hamilton prevailed, with Basha second, Chandler third and Perry fourth. Helen Kim from Hamilton High won the individual championship.

Hamilton High - (2012-2013) Hamilton High junior Karina Manta, daughter of Karin Manta first grade teacher at Tarwater Elementary, became the Novice Solo Ice Dance National Champion in Colorado Springs on September 23.

Hamilton High - (2012-2013) Sarah Burgess, history teacher at Hamilton High, was recognized as the Sun Lakes Rotary Club 'Teacher of the Month' for October.

Hamilton High - (2012-2013) The State Division I girls golf championships took place in October at Aguila golf course in Phoenix. Hamilton High finished second. In the individual honors students Saki Iida placed – 2nd , Mikayla Harmon placed 3rd, and Yesong Han placed 4th.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High student Taha Hasan received the prestigous Baird Scholarship from The University of Arizona. The Baird Foundation members have distinguished themselves in their academics and service during their high school years and will have many more opportunities throughout college with this Foundation. Each year the Baird Foundation chooses 10 students statewide to receive this.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) CUSD had 15 IMPACT Chandler Scholars this year: Brittany Bickley, Trenton DeLizio, Dylan Nall and Kacey Romo from Basha High School, Krista Moller, Britt Myslinski, Danielle Rodriguez, Swetha Swaninathan and Gabrielle Tyrrell from Chandler High School, Amanda Ginn, Samantha Stephens and Trenton Tharalson from Hamilton High School, and Drew Crawford, Alexis La Benz and Connor Ong from Perry High School.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Four CUSD students were selected for the 2012 Arizona All-state Jazz Band. John Michael Sherman and Alex Price from Hamilton High and Ben Westen and Jacob Kantzos from Basha High made the grade.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) AIA State Competition - Track - Girls: HHS student Ashlee Moore won the state championship in the High Jump event.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) AIA State Competition - Track - Girls: HHS student Hunter Wilkes won the state championship in the Pole Vault event.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) AIA State Competition - Track - Girls: HHS student Ashlee Moore won the state championship in the Long Jump event.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) AIA State Competition - Track - Girls: HHS student Faren Cunningham was the runner-up in the 100 M Dash.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) AIA State Competition - Wrestling - Individual: HHS student Alex Burgoyne was the runner-up in the 195 Lb weight.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) AIA State Competition - Wrestling - Individual: HHS student Derek Andresen was the runner-up in the 182 lb. weight.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Orlando Chaney, culinary arts teacher at Hamilton High, was recognized as the Sun Lakes Rotary Club 'Teacher of the Month' for September.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High Drama Department took 1st in State and were national qualifiers in duo-acting and duo-pantomime. They also took 1st in Regionals and were national qualifiers in monologues, group acting, stage management, and costumes.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High Speech and Debate took the 1st place sweepstakes award in the Southwest Regional competition at ASU (a national competition) and the Toro Country Classic. They also took the 2nd place sweepstakes award at the Central Bobcat Bonanza and the 5A Winter Trophy.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Gatorade has selected Hamilton High student Danny Arrubla as the 2011-12 Gatorade Arizona Boys Soccer Player of the Year. The award honors the top high school student-athletes for academic achievement, athletic excellence and exemplary character.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High's Air Force Junior ROTC, under the direction of Tom McKinley, was designated as a Distinguished Unit with Merit. That designation means the HHS cadets achieved the honor of being among the top 10% of AFJROTC units around the world (approximately 900 units).

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Chandler Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities awarded Kathy Parks, special education aid at Hamilton High, Educator of the Year and Delilah Bryant (pictured), senior at Perry High, Student of the Year.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Sophomore Ivy Chang completed over 35 volunteer hours, coaching 15 Santan 5th graders in various Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics concepts, in hopes to inspire them to form their own Destination Imagination team of budding scientists, tech geeks, engineers, actors/actresses, and mathematicians.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High School won many honors in March at the Anaheim, CA 2012 Heritage Music Festival: overall festival sweepstakes winner, sweepstakes winner for the orchestra groups, sweepstakes winner for the band groups, gold 1st place for band big band, gold 1st place for orchestra chamber orchestra, gold: schola cantorum, silver 2nd place jazz band, silver 2nd place symphonic orchestra, silver 3rd place sol, silver 2nd place dolce, bronze concert orchestra.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High School won many honors in March at the Anaheim, CA 2012 Heritage Music Festival. Student John Michael Sherman won the Heritage/Disney 'You Make Memories' award, the only student so recognized. There were also only seven Maestro awards given out for the entire festival and Hamilton had five of them: Connie Zhu, Andrea Lin, Nat Palmer, John Michael Sherman and Lisa Jones.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Won the Most Amazing Best Buddies Chapter for the state of Arizona.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Won the AIA HA Hendricks Award for overall excellence in athletics.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) State champions in Boy's soccer, runner up in girls golf, girls basketball, football, girls' soccer.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) For the AVID Class of 2012: We will surpass 1/2 million dollars in total scholarship dollars earned. All of the students applied to 4 yr universities and 90% were accepted. These students as group took 15 different AP subject tests.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) State Science Fair Winners: Students Rajan Sheth and Alfred Xue, Thuy-duyen Nguyen and Jasmine Chien, and Varun Ramesh all won the Grand Award for the senior division.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High received a $5,000 grant from Target to help with the homeless and disadvantaged kids at HHS and in the district.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) The Hamilton High Boys and Girls golf teams won the second annual Antigua National Golf Invitational earlier at McCormick Ranch Golf Club. Two HHS students, Aaron Wong (boys) and Kyung Kim (girls), won the individual titles as well.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High was named the Fiesta Bowl Arizona High School team of the week. The Huskies stretched its winning streak to 44 games, defeating Desert Ridge, 28-6, to earn the honor.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High placed third at ASU Band Day on Oct. 22. Also the Hamilton symphonic and concert orchestras participated in the Arizona Band and Orchestra Director's Association Fall Orchestra Festival at Flowing Wells High School on Oct. 21. The Symphonic Orchestra received a rating of Superior and the HHS/HHP Concert Orchestra received a rating of Excellent.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) All four CUSD high schools earned a rating of Superior with Distinction at the Division II State Marching Festival at Hamilton High on Saturday. Only five schools earned this honor -- the four Chandler Unified units and Mesa High.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) CUSD schools swept the top four spots at the State Division II marching band championships at Glendale Community College. Basha High won the title, edging second-place Chandler, third-place Hamilton and fourth-place Perry.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) HHS football team helped a single mom in need. After giving birth, she checked out of the hospital to find the locks changed and an eviction notice on her condo. She lost her job and had not yet paid the rent. She had from 9-5 on Saturday to empty her condo, but having just given birth, she could not lift or carry. Coach Belles found out at around 4 pm Friday and at 11 am the next day there were 50 Huskies players at her door. The boys worked all day and helped her move into temporary housing.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High took second place in the state football championship. Hamilton High's nation-best 53 game winning streak came to a halt with a 45-19 loss to Desert Vista in the Division I state championship game at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton won its first-ever boys state soccer title, defeating defending champion Brophy Prep in overtime, 2-1. The Huskies trailed late in the second period before junior Jordan Fletcher found the net with 10:46 left to it, 1-1. Following two 10-minute OT periods, a five-minute sudden-death period, Fletcher scored again with 3:26 left in the second and final OT period.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High girls basketball team qualified for their first-ever state championship game, before falling to St. Mary's in the finale.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) The advanced choir Sol from Hamilton High School received a superior rating at the NAU Jazz Madrigal Festival in February. The annual event is one of the largest festivals of its kind in the southwest.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Congratulations to Hamilton High honors English teacher JoAnn Markette. She was honored with the Arizona School Administrators (ASA) Outstanding Doctoral Student Award for 2011-2012 for her dissertation regarding the transformative effects of online education. This is the second year in a row that a Hamilton staff member has won this award.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High School Dance Company participated in the Arizona State pom and cheerleading competition in March and won second place in jazz-small and second place in hip hop- small.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Diane Lundahl, Hamilton High School -- Si Se Puede Educator Award.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Arizona Interscholastic Association has awarded Hamilton High the 2012 Tony Komadina Award for Outstanding Girls Athletic Programs.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Two members of Hamilton Dance Company, seniors Mariah Spears and Amanda Wade, were awarded the Arizona Dance Education Organization's Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award. Because of their high scores they were both honored for this at the state level when there is normally only one winner. They are both now competing for the national award.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Congratulations are in order for Fred Deprez. He has been selected to represent Arizona as the 2012 National Association of Secondary Principals/MetLife Principal of the Year.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Three CUSD students, Steven Bergauer and Lekha Anantuni of Hamilton High, and Anna Carson of Hamilton Prep, were named 2012 Flinn scholars. Flinn Foundation Website

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High student Mariah Spears, under the direction of dance director Danny Milbauer, won the National Dance Organizations artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement award. Her hard work and dedication to the art of dance, her academics, and her community service have led her to receive this national award.

Hamilton High - (2011-2012) Hamilton High senior Lizzy Bradley was selected as one of two Arizona senators to attend Girls Nation July 20-28. She participated in a mock legislative session, a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington, and had a chance to meet President Obama at the White House. Lizzy is the third Hamilton High School student to be chosen for either Girls or Boys Nation since the school opening.
