    Follow Up Regarding Eddie Basha

Several people have inquired about services or ways to pay tribute to Eddie's life. Here is additional information.

A public service will be held at 10 a.m. April 6 at Grady Gammage auditorium.

Considering how many organizations Eddie directly helped over the years, imagine how difficult it must have been for the Basha family to narrow the choices of non-profits to select to benefit from a donation in lieu of flowers. You can pay tribute to Eddie's life by making a donation in his name to any of the following:

    • St. Vincent de Paul at P.O. Box 13600, Phoenix AZ 85002
    • Salvation Army at 2707 E. Van Buren Street, Phoenix, 85008
    • Adelante Foundation at P.O. Box 488, Chandler AZ 85244
    • First Things First at 4000 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix 85012

(Really, you could make a donation to any non-profit and tell them you are doing so in honor of Eddie's legacy.)

In case you haven’t heard, we lost the ultimate advocate for children yesterday afternoon with the passing of Eddie Basha.

Eddie graduated from Chandler High and went on to run the Bashas’ family grocery business. He is just as well known for dedicating his life to improving education and the lives of young people. He and his wife Nadine’s contributions are immense. Eddie served on the CUSD Governing Board for 12 years from 1969 through 1980 and later was appointed to the State Board and the Arizona Board of Regents. Eddie lent his support to many causes in our community. The original San Marcos Family Resource Center, which is now the Chandler CARE Center, was his brainchild. Eddie had a reputation for having a big heart. The extent of his support isn’t understood by some because he insisted on anonymity in most cases.

Basha High School opened in 2003 in honor of Eddie’s leadership and vision in our community and state. (Basha Elementary is named in honor of the entire Basha family.) His most recent recognition came in December 2012 when he was awarded the Arizona School Boards Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

No information on services are available at this time.

Thank you for all of the support and caring, Eddie. You will be missed.
