Perry High - (2016-2017) With eight college signers today, ALL of our fall sports teams making the state tournament and placing no lower than 11th, Coach Preston Jones and Brock Purdy both earning AZ Cardinals awards, and a HUGE football game tomorrow, Perry is having a great year! Perry High - (2015-2016) Kudos to those from CUSD who attended the recent Relay for Life of Chandler event hosted by Basha High School on April 29. Over 400 staff and students, represented by Basha Elementary, CTA Freedom, Patterson, Riggs, Ryan, Payne, Basha High, Chandler High, Hamilton High and Perry High, attended the 12 hour overnight event where teams committed to have members walk throughout the night. Perry High - (2015-2016) Perry student Emily Jacques qualified for the President's Volunteer Service Award. This award recognizes American of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve in their communities and their country. Perry High - (2015-2016) On January 29-30th, our Perry Theatre Team competed at regionals. Their accomplishments over the competition were astounding! They received: 14 Superior with Distinction ratings (straight Superiors from all judges); 9 Superior ratings; and 7 Excellent ratings. Every Superior and Superior with Distinction rating qualifies for Nationals.
Perry High - (2015-2016) Perry Speech and Debate Team News: Clayton Malfori placed in the top 8 of Lincoln Douglas Debate; Grayson Hunter Privett and Grayson Rauscher placed in the top 8 in Public Forum Debate; Cindy Ha placed 15th in Expository Speaking and 7th in Oratory Speaking; and Joanna Gunaraj placed 6th in Oratory Speaking. Both Cindy and Joanna qualified for the National Tournament of Excellence in Denver this May and for the Tournament of Excellence at the University of Kentucky this April. Great job, team!
Perry High - (2015-2016) Perry Choir news: Justice Williams, Rosie Fox, Taylor Lesueur, Marisa McAllister, Mackenzie Nelson, Maya Mortensen, and Jamie Carroll attended the AMEA Southwest Regional choir event and sang under the direction of Bart Evans of ASU's school of music. They were selected by audition to sing with the most outstanding choir students in our region. They represented us well and had the chance to perform some advanced choral literature.

Perry High - (2015-2016) The Arizona Dance Education Organization (AzDEO) awarded Isabelle Call, Perry High student in Ms. Sadler's class, 1st place in their annual Essay Contest for the 10th-12th grade division. Her winning essay, entitled "All Thanks to Dance," addressed the theme "How does Dance inspire you to reach your future goals?" The review committee of dance educators were impressed with Isabelle's ability to express the impact and power that dance has had upon her life.
Perry High - (2015-2016) The Johnson City Cardinals have announced that Perry High School Senior Joey Liberatore will be the new Director of Media Relations for the 2016 season. Perry High - (2015-2016) On Saturday, February 13, sixteen Perry High School students from Caryn Butler's Graphic Design program competed in the Region 3, SkillsUSA competition. All 16 students competed in Advertising Design. Two of those students also competed in Leadership contests: Job Interview and Outstanding Chapter. Perry was recognized in the Outstanding Chapter competition with a plaque.

Doubles team of Lauren Kater and Laike Reader were State Runners Up at the doubles state tournament. Singles players Katie Cross and Jullian Lagasca both made it to the 3rd round of the individual state tournament. Coach Lerina Johnson was named AIA All-Section 2 Coach of the Year.

Cade Burks was City Champion, Section Champion, placed 2nd at the State Meet for 1st Team All-State and was named United Dairymen of Arizona/Arizona Coaches Association Cross Country All-American. Anthony Haren was Section Runner Up and placed 13th at the State Meet for 2nd Team All-State.

Perry High - (2015-2016) Perry High Fall Sports: Cade Burks was named All-East Valley Tribune First Team for Cross Country. Case Hatch was named All-East Valley Tribune 1st Team Defense for Football. Perry High - (2015-2016) Perry High Girls Swim/Dive: 27th at state. Kaylee Sulzberger was 11th in the 500 Freestyle, 13th in the 200 IM. The 400 Freestyle Relay of Katrina Khoo, Sulzberger, Haley Nemmers and Brieanna Wood was 18th. The 200 Freestyle Relay of Khoo, Sulzberger, Grace Llona and Nemmers was 23rd. The 200 Medley Relay of Khoo, Llona, Kendall MacGregor and Wood was 29th. Divers Celeste Llona finished 12th, Kaylie Jackson finished 18th and McKinley Milius finished 19th.

Perry High - (2014-2015) Perry High's theatre students performed The Addams Family at two shows at the Arizona Theatre Festival. They were the talk of the night. Several Perry students excelled at their individual events. Jenna Reynolds was chosen as the showcase winner of costume construction; David Pryzbyl took first place in cable coiling and Kyle Layton second place in rigging. Overall Perry walked away with 5 Superior with Distinction awards. They also received Superiors in Monologues and Readers Theatre.
Perry High - (2014-2015) Perry High 2011 graduate, Alysha Green of Arizona State University has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to Brazil for an English Teaching Assistantship, the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently.

Perry High - (2014-2015) Perry High school freshman Emily Woodward-Shaw was awarded an 'AriZoni'! This is an award given for theatre excellence (it is Arizona's version of the Tony Awards). She won the award for her portrayal of Gertrude McFuzz in Studio 3's version of Seussical Jr. She won best 'Actress in a Major Role -Musical' category.
Perry High - (2014-2015) Hamilton High teacher Jim Clark, Perry High teacher Andrea Strock and Knox Elementary teacher Allison Davis have been selected as finalists for 2014 STEM Superhero Awards in the category of Most Dedicated STEM teacher. Additionally, Perry High school has been selected as a finalist for the Best STEM School.
Perry High - (2014-2015) Perry High School's journalism program earned the state's highest award on Oct. 27, collecting the Arizona Interscholastic Press Association's first place prize for General Excellence. In addition Perry students received 27 awards for individual contributions to the 2013-14 Precedent student newspaper, including news, opinion, feature, review and sports writing, photography, as well as layout and graphic design.
Perry High - (2014-2015) Perry High School students Emily West and Kelsey O'Brien were selected from more than 1,300 applicants nationwide to perform with the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. The students received an all-expense paid trip to San Antonio, Texas to perform at the All-American Bowl on January 3. The All-American bowl game is also televised live on NBC. The students were two out of five from Arizona. Only 135 members nationwide were chosen after completing the challenging application process.
Perry High - (2014-2015) The Perry High School 'STEM Diploma Program' was selected to receive a 2014 Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA) Golden Bell award. The program was awarded a 'Runner-Up Honors' by the judges in the high school category.

Perry High - (2013-2014) Young author inspired students at Arizona College Prep during recent speaking engagement. Author Randi Ryan is a 15-year-old sophomore at Perry High School and daughter of Angela Van Tongeren, American Sign Language teacher at Perry High. She started writing in sixth grade and completed her first novel when she was 13 and an eighth grader at Arizona College Prep-Oakland campus.

Perry High - (2013-2014) Perry High student Kristen Kuehn, under the direction of culinary teacher Angela Stutz, won a state-wide culinary competition. She competed against 120 Arizona culinary students in two cooking events over the past two months and was awarded a $108,624 full-tuition bachelor's degree scholarship for Johnson and Wales University.
Perry High - (2013-2014) Congratulations to two CUSD soccer teams for making it to their respective state championship games. Perry girls advanced to their first championship game before falling 1-0 to Pinnacle. Hamilton boys battled Brophy to a scoreless game through regulation and four overtimes before losing a round of penalty kicks. Both games were played at Campo Verde High School. It was a great seasons for both teams.
Perry High - (2013-2014) Perry High culinary students, under the direction of Angela Stutz, received accolades at the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (CCAP) competition last week. Student Stefano Pipia won the 'Meatless Monday' recipe writing competition for the state of Arizona. Maddy Pina competed in CCAP, as a junior against 46 students across Arizona and she placed 15th.
Perry High - (2013-2014) Perry High culinary students, under the direction of Angela Stutz, received accolades at the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (CCAP) competition last week. Kristen Kuehn advanced in the CCAP competition. She will represent Perry and CUSD in the final competition on March 22. She is guaranteed a scholarship for advancing in the competition.
Perry High - (2013-2014) Perry High seniors Parker Kauffman and Gabrielle King, under the direction of band director Brandon Kiesgen, were selected to participate in the 2014 US All-American Marching band. They were two of only six in Arizona selected out of 1,300 applicants nationwide to perform in this elite ensemble. They will be representing CUSD at the All-American Bowl Game in San Antonio Texas, on January 4.

Marisa Costagliola, Rachel Lattin, Lester Nnagbo, and Torrey Thompson all won first place in their respective categories. Perry High - (2013-2014) Perry High's theatre and choir students won five overall superior and three excellent rankings at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Lester Nnagbo was awarded the Best Male Improviser of the competition. Additionally, Lester Nnagbo and Kate Brandt were chosen to showcase their scene from Othello. Brittany Isabell received three superior scores for her monologue performance. Blake Miller and Alli Messersmith received a first-place ranking and fourth place ranking in their performances.
Perry High - (2013-2014) The high school girls golf teams competed in the 2013 City Golf tournament last week. Hamilton prevailed, with Chandler second, Basha third and Perry fourth. Ellie Porman from Chandler High won the individual championship.

Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High DECA students have been active in school involvement, community service, entrepreneurship, membership, and promotional activities related to the national DECA Thrive Campaign and awards. The campaign has two levels for each of two awards: the Thrive Level (gold) and the Achievement Level (silver). Perry High School was the ONLY chapter in Arizona to win the THRIVE LEVEL (gold) for both awards (1 of 30 nationally), earning national chapter recognition for the first time.

All four CUSD comprehensive high schools Basha High, Chandler High, Hamilton High and Perry High are listed in the Arizona top 30. Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High senior Christian Gomez is part of the Arizona Dreamers. He went to a meeting at the Mexican Consulate which was attended by politicians in Arizona (mayors, councilmen, congressmen, Sandra Day O'Connor, university officials, etc.). He met with the entire group. Last night ASU President Michael Crow personally contacted Christian to ask if he would like to receive one of four $50,000 scholarships that ASU has for 'Dreamers.'
Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High students, under the direction of teacher Lorena DeCristofaro, competed in the district-wide high school art competition. This year Perry High School students won all top three places in the painting category. Kelsey O'Brien took first place, Rachel Soldo took second place and Abbey Tameron took third place.
Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High freshman Miranda (Randi) Ryan and daughter of Perry High sign language teacher Van Tongeren is a published author. Randi's first novel called Cat's Game, is the first of a three book trilogy set that she is writing. The book is absolutely amazing; Randi could easily become the next Stephenie Meyer (Twilight series) or Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games series). Randi just recently completed her second Novel which is titled Heads or Tails.
Perry High - (2012-2013) The Perry High chamber orchestra and symphony orchestra, under the direction of Alex Zheng, represented the district extremely well at the Anaheim Festival. They received all the possible music awards that could be given at the festival: Gold for Chamber orchestra, Gold for Symphonic orchestra with 1st place, Adjudicator's Award, Outstanding Orchestra Award, Sweepstakes for Instrumental Program Award, Sweepstakes for Total Program Award (combined with Perry Choir).

Perry High - (2012-2013) Under the direction of teacher Cindy Pino, student representatives from the National Honor Society at Perry High donated about 1,000 children's books to a teacher from STAR Charter School located just outside of Flagstaff. The school predominately serves the Navajo students from a reservation located just three miles from the school. A teacher from the school, along with four of her students, drove a van down to Perry to pick up the books.

Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High teacher Rhonda Duering and principal Dan Serrano visited Washington D.C. in February to take part in the Teachers for Global Classrooms Program's Global Education Symposium, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Rhonda and Dan are part of a group of 160 teachers, school principals and district administrators who were selected to participate in the symposium.
Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High's 'Camp Innovation' summer program featured 31 Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) eighth graders attending a camp at ASU Polytechnic Campus.The camp included innovative experiences in rocket design, gaming, applied environmental biological lab observations, flight and air traffic simulation, catapult building and an intro to business and engineering.
Perry High - (2012-2013) The Perry High student newspaper 'The Precedent' has its first National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) finalist in sports photography. The NSPA released its finalists for their Pacemaker awards (these are the same as the Pulitzer, but for scholastic journalism). Former Perry High student Taylor de Laveaga was in Elizabeth Tompkins commercial photography class last year and went on location to shoot the boys basketball playoff game at ASU. Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High dive coach Keddi Murrish was named the Arizona Dive Coach of the Year at the Swim and Dive State Championships earlier this month. In addition Lerina Johnson was named as the Arizona State Division 1 Badminton Coach of the Year as well as the Division I, Section 2 Badminton Coach of the Year.
Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High's pom and cheer squad competed in the USA Regional competition earlier this month. Pom placed second in their division and Cheer placed first. Both teams qualified for Nationals.
Perry High - (2012-2013) Perry High's Puma Regiment competed at the state marching band festival and received the highest possible rating of Superior with Distinction. They also swept all five of the caption awards and were one of only two bands to accomplish this feat out of 22. They placed first overall.

Perry High - (2011-2012) The Perry High School newspaper took home a record 26 awards at the Arizona Interscholastic Press Association's spring journalism contest. Awards were given for news, opinion, feature, review and sports writing, as well as photography, page layout and graphic design. Editor-In-Chief Thomas Pipia won six individual awards, and opinions editor Brianna Bartos won five.

Perry High - (2011-2012) English Teacher Kristen MacKenzie, won the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Teacher Workshop Huck, Jim and Jim Crow fellowship to study at the Mark Twain House in Hartford Connecticut. Summer Seminars and Institutes for School Teachers are offered by the National Endowment for the Humanities to provide teachers an opportunity for substantive study of significant humanities ideas and texts.
Perry High - (2011-2012) Alexis La Benz of Perry High was selected as an ASU Leadership Scholarship Program (LSP) recipient. Each year, 25 exceptional student leaders are chosen by ASU to participate in this four-year program that offers students the opportunity to learn and grow as leaders while giving back to the greater community.
