Welcome! Freedom Elementary students experience a wide variety of activities throughout the year. These activities are based on the Chandler Unified School district music curriculum, which is derived from the Arizona and National Standards for music education. The Kodaly, Orff, and Dalcroze methods are employed by reading and writing music, singing, playing instruments, listening and evaluating, moving and dancing, composing, team work and FUN!
My Education and Professional Background
My degrees include Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Southern Maine and a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy from Arizona State University. I have been a music educator since 1980 at the elementary, junior high, and college levels.
I am also certified in the Orff and Kodaly methods.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe all children can learn. Music offers a child a way to learn through expression and creativity. Music education should be an extension of core subject areas as well as a means of teaching self-discipline and self-esteem. It is my mission to provide a balanced, sequential and comprehensive music education to all students. I strive to help my students become life-long learners who appreciate all types of music with an open mind.
