Welcome to Andersen Elementary School.  My name is Shannon Hannon and I am honored to be the Principal here at Andersen.  I would like to share with you my educational background as well as my educational philosophies and some information about myself.

I am originally from Michigan and that is where I met my husband, Josh.  We are from the same small town, but now call Arizona home.  We have two children, Brady and Gracey, and they are the best part of every day.    I spend a lot of time with my family and together we enjoy watching movies, baking, and playing.  I also enjoy reading, running and time with friends.

I graduated from ASU West in 1997 with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and went back to Michigan for three years where I taught 1st and 2nd grades.  After that I returned to Arizona and taught 5th grade before moving into administration.  I received my Master’s Degree from NAU in 2003 and have been an Assistant Principal for five years at both the K-8 level and one year at the high school level.  I am currently working on my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership through NAU and will complete my degree in 2013.  All of this has led me to Andersen, which I now call home.

My philosophy of what makes a great school is the relationships we build with one another and communication.  We will work very hard to build relationships with each of our students to identify their strengths and needs and to ensure they are learning and progressing each school year. We are committed to providing a positive experience for all students.  I will also work very hard to build relationships with our parents and community as I feel that to make a great school, we need the support of everyone.  I will also ensure that we consistently communicate with our parents and community to share information, events and any note worthy news.  I look forward to all opportunities to meet and get to you know everyone.

I have a passion for curriculum and instruction and how students learn.  I believe that all students can learn and our challenge is to put the pieces together to determine how that will take place. My heart lies in reading instruction and the importance of this skill in all grade levels and all subjects.  I enjoy learning about it and using what I learn to impact our students.  No matter what grade level our students are in, we are preparing them for their future and I consider that an honor.  We get them for a short time, but the impact we have will be life long.  Continuously improving what we do and focusing on each student is what makes Andersen a great place to be.

 Sincerely,
