I grew up in the Portland area of Oregon. I got my BS degree in Elementary Education at Oregon State and taught a total of thirteen years in the Oregon City School District and the Lake Oswego School District. My husband's work brought us to Arizona. Going from the green, forested hills of Oregon to the desert landscape of Arizona was quite a change! I found myself teaching in a neighboring school district and eventually was asked to be an Asst. Director of Staff Development. My charge was K-8 literacy for the district. During that time, I completed my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction through Northern Arizona University. I then pursued my Administrator's Certification through the University of Phoenix. Following that, I became an Assistant Principal at an elementary school. It was then I realized that being in school leadership was my calling.
In 2003, I decided to express interest in a Principal's position in the Chandler Unified School District. I was so thrilled when I was named Principal of Knox Elementary. I had five glorious years partnering with the staff, students and families of Knox. Then I moved to the District Office and spent the last three years as Director of Human Resources. Again, it was a wonderful experience…one that continued to mold me and shape me as an educator.
Today I am principal of Frye Elementary. Each day I approach work with a burning desire to lead us to the next level of excellence. My job isn't only to lead, but to serve my community of teachers, students and parents. I want to inspire and motivate all of us to do our personal best and to always be reflective in our work. Our most important work is to continually pursue and discover new ways to make learning meaningful, interesting, relevant and challenging for our students. I pledge to you that I will do everything I can to help the community of Frye learners achieve excellence!
I look forward to connecting with Frye families throughout the school year! Welcome to Frye!
In pursuit of excellence,
Laura Rook
