Race to the Top is a grant program developed as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. It is designed to reward states that improve academic growth. It's main purpose is to reform education in four ways:
- To adapt standards and assessments for success in higher learning and the workplace.
- Build data systems that inform teacher and administrator decisions so as to improve academic growth.
- Rewarding and retaining effective teachers and administrators.
- Increasing the progress of the lowest achieving schools.
